Beginning with Spider-Man: Homecoming and ending with SPIDER-MAN: NO WAY HOME, Zendaya has played Michelle “MJ” Jones in three Spider-Man films. We don’t know what MJ’s involvement will be in the third edition of Spider-Man: No Way Home because plot elements have been kept under wraps, but it’s also uncertain if the Emmy-winning actress will return for future Marvel flicks after her third round with Peter Parker (Tom Holland).
Zendaya was speaking with E! about her upcoming film Space Jam: A New Legacy, in which she voices Lola Bunny, and she expressed her uncertainty regarding her future in the MCU following Spider-Man: No Way Home. Here’s what she had to say about it:
“It was so much fun. It was kind of bittersweet. We don’t know if we’re going to do another one, like is it just going to be three and done? Like kind of normally you do three movies and that’s pretty much it, so I think we just were all absorbing and taking the time to just enjoy the moment being with each other and being so grateful for that experience.”
Tom Holland has revealed that his contract with Spider-Man: No Way Home is up, but he has often maintained that he would be pleased to continue playing Spider-Man. I have no doubt that Marvel will go to whatever length to get Holland onboard for further films, but Zendaya is true in that Marvel standalone films normally receive three installments. The fourth picture in the Thor trilogy, Thor: Love and Thunder, is set to break that trend next year, and it’s highly likely that we’ll see more Spider-Man movies following this year’s third edition. Zendaya is a hot item in her own right, and I’m sure Marvel would like to keep her. Tom Holland, Zendaya, Jamie Foxx, Alfred Molina, Benedict Cumberbatch, Jacob Batalon, Marisa Tomei, and J.J. Smoove star in Spider-Man: No Way Home, which is directed by Jon Watts for the second time. While story details are being kept under wraps, there is suspicion that the film may deal with the multiverse in some way, which is why so many fans are eagerly awaiting the first trailer.
Do you think Zendaya will return in future Spider-Man movies? On December 17, 2021, Spider-Man: No Way Home will enter theatres.
