Fox has given the go light to an adaptation of Ben H. Winters’ sci-fi mystery novel The Last Policeman, which is set in the future. The project has been given a pilot order, which is a first for Fox’s development season of 2021-22. Kyle Killen, the creator of Lone Star and Awake, will write, direct, and executive produce the adaptation, which will be presented as an hour-long project titled The Last Police.
According to Deadline, The Last Police follows a small-town police officer who believes she has been selected to save humanity as an asteroid approaches an apocalyptic collision with Earth. Meanwhile, her cynical companion is torn between enjoying her illusory failure and the end of the world..
The Last Policeman is one of three books in a trilogy authored by Winters, and it was published in 2012. The original novel, on which Fox’s pilot concept is based, won the Edgar Award for Best Original Paperback the same year.
