Boba Fett sat atop a throne in Jabba the Hutt’s palace as the second season of The Mandalorian ended on a shocking note. While it appeared that The Mandalorian would be pursuing another plot thread, the words “The Book of Boba Fett” appeared on screen, and no one knew what to make of them. Would he be able to continue his storey in a book, as the words suggest? Or would his storey be a major focus of The Mandalorian’s third season? The Book of Boba Fett, a new Disney+ series, will premiere in late 2021, and The Mandalorian’s third season will follow a year later.
Disney announced today that the first episode of The Book of Boba Fett will premiere on Disney+ on December 29. The news is accompanied by a teaser poster, which gives us our first glimpse of the famed bounty hunter’s return. He’s still seated on the throne, relaxed and at ease in his new role.
“The Book of Boba Fett,” a thrilling Star Wars adventure, finds legendary bounty hunter Boba Fett and mercenary Fennec Shand navigating the galaxy’s underworld when they return to the sands of Tatooine to stake their claim on the territory once ruled by Jabba the Hutt and his crime syndicate,” according to Disney.
It’s not much, but it gives us some direction and indicates that Fennec Shand will most likely accompany us for the duration of the journey. Executive producers are Jon Favreau, Dave Filoni, Robert Rodriguez, Kathleen Kennedy, and Colin Wilson, according to Disney.
We all want to see more of The Mandalorian, especially to see if Luke Skywalker and Grogu make an appearance, but first we’ll have to enjoy Boba Fett’s rise to power. That isn’t a bad reason to hold off.
