I haven’t seen the 2019 animated version of The Addams Family yet, but a lot of people have – it earned $204 million at the global box office during its theatrical release on a $24 million budget. So it’s only natural that a sequel will be released on October 1st – and, given the crazy times we’re living in, it’s also natural that MGM will release The Addams Family 2 as a premium online rental the same day the film hits theatres.
Scripted by Dan Hernandez and Benji Samit, The Addams Family was directed by Greg Tiernan and Conrad Vernon, who also directed the previous film. This sequel has the following synopsis:
Everyone’s favorite spooky family is back in the animated comedy sequel, The Addams Family 2. In this all-new movie, we find Morticia and Gomez distraught that their children are growing up, skipping family dinners, and totally consumed with “scream time.” To reclaim their bond they decide to cram Wednesday, Pugsley, Uncle Fester, and the crew into their haunted camper and hit the road for one last miserable family vacation. Their adventure across America takes them out of their element and into hilarious run-ins with their iconic cousin, It, as well as many new kooky characters. What could possibly go wrong?
Oscar Isaac plays Gomez, Charlize Theron plays Morticia, Chloe Grace Moretz plays Wednesday, Nick Kroll plays Uncle Fester, Javon ‘Wanna’ Walton plays Pugsley (replacing Finn Wolfhard as Pugsley in 2019), Bette Midler plays Grandmama, and Snoop Dogg plays It, with Wallace Shawn and Bill Hader playing new characters.
With more than a month until The Addams Family 2 hits theatres, I might be able to catch up on the 2019 film by the time this one comes out.
