Although Apple has stated that it has no plans to replace the iPhone’s Lightning port with a USB-C port to bring it in line with Macs and iPads, robotics student Ken Pillonel spent months hacking an iPhone to add a USB-C port.

Pillonel first demonstrated the “world’s first ‌iPhone‌ with a USB Type-C port,” in early October, and now he’s shared a second video explaining how he did it.

Pillonel describes how he created a proof of concept and the steps he took to design a working USB-C port that fits inside the iPhone. Although it is a technical video, it does walk through all of the steps for those who are interested in attempting their own modification.

On eBay, a modded iPhone X with a USB-C port is being auctioned off, with Pillonel promising a fully functional phone upon delivery. Buyers are not allowed to update or erase the iPhone, open it, or use it as a regular phone. Bidding has surpassed $800 so far.
