Fans of action-packed Metroidvanias should keep an eye on Souldiers, which was recently announced. No, that’s not a typo; it’s a hint at the type of game you’re about to play. Souldiers is a beautiful 16-bit Soulslike developed by Retro Forge Games and published by Dear Villagers that already looks impressive.
To battle their way through a slew of enemies and bosses, players can choose from three upgradeable classes: a sword-wielding scout, a spellcaster, or an archer. You have the ability to parry and dodge while exploring a large, interconnected world full of environmental puzzles. You’ll also spend a lot of time platforming your way through a variety of obstacles. Retro Forge does not go into detail about the Souls aspects, except to say that the difficulty will not be for the faint of heart. Do you have a stamina metre that controls your actions? Do you lose everything when you die and must reclaim it in your next life? We’ll hopefully learn more before Souldiers launches in Spring 2022 on Switch and PC.
Souldiers may go through the motions of what has become the modern indie game’s checklist, but it’s hard to deny that it looks like a blast. The action is fantastic, and the detailed pixel art is worthy of a retro game beauty pageant. What are your thoughts on Souldiers? Let us know what you think on our server!
