With the summer game season well underway, the game industry is looking forward to Gamescom next week for the next big studio announcements. Geoff Keighley’s Opening Night Live event, which kicks off the Gamescom with all kinds of new trailers and reveals, is a newer tradition of the show traditionally held in Germany. Keighley teased his event on Twitter this morning, and this one might pique the interest of fans of a certain galaxy-hopping crime organisation.
Keighley’s tweet (below) includes a short video of a graffiti-covered brick wall with the word “rebooting” in the centre. A fleur-de-lis appears next to that word, an icon associated with the 3rd Street Saints, the titular gang at the centre of the Saints Row franchise. It’s no surprise that the image used as the banner on Saints Row’s Twitter account has been changed as well.
Let’s not waste any time connecting the dots: it appears that we’ll be getting a new Saints Row adventure next week, and it’ll almost certainly be a reboot. The Saints were tussling with aliens and toying with the idea of messing with time travel the last time we saw them; certainly not the strangest thing Volition has ever done. Johnny Gat’s battles with the forces of Heaven and Hell are another example. So, while we have a lot of questions about whether or not this will continue the timeline in some way or be a complete reboot, we’ll have to wait until next week to find out.
