In Moonfall, the latest disaster film from Roland Emmerich, the moon, furious at humanity for stepping on it more than 50 years ago, will exact its vengeance on Earth. In the first Moonfall teaser trailer, we see our moon hurtling toward Earth, destroying everything in its path. It’s up to astronauts Jo Fowler (Halle Berry) and Brian Harper (Patrick Wilson) to stop it, with the help of conspiracy theorist K.C. Houseman (John Bradley). Which, to be honest, appears to be a fairly large task for three people.
The moon’s collision with Earth, however, does not appear to be a natural occurrence, as the first trailer for Moonfall suggests. The moon was knocked out of its orbit by a “mysterious force” (that sure looks like a giant tentacled alien). Things will get even weirder, according to Moonfall’s official description. Our heroes will “mount an impossible last-ditch mission into space only to discover that our moon is not what we think it is,” according to the official description.
Moonfall is directed by Roland Emmerich, the German filmmaker behind Independence Day (and its 2016 sequel), 2012, and The Day After Tomorrow, all of which completely destroyed Earth. Michael Pea, Charlie Plummer, Kelly Yu, Eme Ikwuakor, Carolina Bartczak, and Donald Sutherland will join Berry, Wilson, and Bradley on the set.
