Dune Part One is now in theatres and on HBO Max, but fans are already anticipating the sequel due to the cliffhanger ending of the first half. The only issue is that they haven’t started manufacturing it yet, and we don’t know if they will.

Despite the fact that we don’t know much, we can piece together a few details from hints that suggest a sequel is on the way.

Will there be a Dune 2?

According to what has been said publicly so far, there will almost certainly be a Dune Part Two. Denis Villeneuve, the director, has previously expressed optimism about the possibility of a sequel. Meanwhile, when Deadline asked WarnerMedia’s Ann Sarnoff about Part Two, she said, “Will we have a sequel to Dune? You can see how the movie ends if you watch it. “I believe you already know the answer to that.”

The film’s performance is also a sign that a sequel is on the way. The tentpole grossed $40 million in its first weekend in the United States, outperforming every other Warner Bros. film released this year. This is in addition to the film’s international box office gross of more than $200 million.

When will Dune 2 be released?

There’s no way to know for sure, but the production schedule for the first film provides some insight. Dune was announced in 2017 and began filming in March of this year. The film was supposed to be released in October 2020, which meant that nearly 20 months passed between the start of production and the release date.

If production began next year, the film would not be released until late 2023 or early 2024 at the earliest, according to this timeline. Of course, it’s possible that production will be faster this time, but we won’t know for sure until Warner Bros. announces an official release date.

Will Denis Villeneuve and the rest of the cast be back for Dune Part Two?

That appears to be the strategy. Of course, because Part Two hasn’t yet begun filming, it’ll have to work around the schedules of its massive cast. Denis Villeneuve, the director, has expressed interest in continuing the Dune storey and possibly adapting the stories from the other books in the series in the future.

What will the story for Dune Part 2 be?

If you’re looking for a more detailed answer, we have an entire post that contains a lot of spoilers about the second half of Dune. The short version is that Dune Part Two will cover the second half of Frank Herbert’s original novel if you want to save the surprises for the movie.
