Since announcing Redfall at E3 earlier this year, Microsoft, Bethesda, and Arkane haven’t said much about it, and with the game not due out until next year, it’ll be a while before we hear more concrete details. However, it appears that several details and even a few screenshots from the game have leaked on Reddit, allegedly as a result of a recent playtest. While Bethesda has previously stated that Redfall will continue to do many of the things that Arkane is known for, given that it is the studio’s first-ever open-world game, it’s understandable that some of these leaked details mention some interesting changes.

The open-world in Redfall, for example, appears to be influenced by a variety of other games. Borderlands appears to be a big one, with similarities to Gearbox’s looter shooter series in terms of core gameplay loop, boss fights, and NPCs. Players will be able to follow a “core story” in the game, but there will also be “a myriad of side arcs, missions, and fights” scattered throughout the open world.

The world will be similar in size to Ghost of Tsushima and Fallout 76 and will be “seamless” like Breath of the Wild. Meanwhile, there are rumored to be a total of six playable characters, each with their own special ability. One character can teleport short distances, another is accompanied by a drone-like bird, and yet another has the ability to cloak for stealth.

Both stealth and all-out combat are described as viable options when it comes to stealth. Traditional weapons such as rifles and handguns will be available, but there will also be some fancier ones made specifically for the game, such as one that shoots stakes. Enemies will be diverse, including ranged, melee, human, and vampire types. You earn XP by killing enemies and completing missions, but there isn’t much else about progression available.

Finally, the leak mentions that Redfall will be entirely playable solo or in co-op, which has also been confirmed officially. However, the leak claims that there will be no co-op partners in the game.

As with any leak, keep in mind that this is unverified information, so take it with a grain of salt for the time being. However, the fact that screenshots of gameplay from this alleged playtest have also been leaked lends some credence to the information presented here. To that end, the screenshots from the Reddit post can be found at the link above.

Redfall is due out in 2022 for Xbox Series X/S and PC.
