Another Paranormal Activity film features shaky cameras and supernatural hauntings. On Friday, Paramount released the first trailer for Paranormal Activity: Next of Kin, revealing that the reboot will debut on Paramount Plus in October.
Since it was first announced in February, there have been few details about the new Paranormal Activity film. The Blumhouse-produced film has been described as a fresh start for the franchise. According to the trailer, we can expect some colonial-era hauntings mixed in with a more modern-day setting that fits the series’ signature found-footage, shaky camera style better.
The creative team behind the film is perhaps the most intriguing aspect of it. Underwater, directed by William Eubank in 2020, was a deep sea-set horror film that was creepier than anyone expected. Meanwhile, Christopher Landon, who directed both Happy Death Day films and last year’s body swap horror-comedy Freaky, will write Paranormal Activity: Next of Kin. Landon previously worked on the Paranormal Activity franchise, directing and writing one of the series’ better sequels, Paranormal Activity: The Marked Ones, in 2014.
While Next of Kin was first announced earlier this year, and producer Jason Blum mentioned it once or twice in the interim, it was expected to hit theatres in 2022. However, thanks to the new trailer, we now know that it will arrive much sooner than expected. On October 29, Paramount Plus will release and stream Paranormal Activity: Next of Kin exclusively.
