I had the pleasure of speaking with Katrina Bowden about her next horror film, GREAT WHITE, which will be released on Friday, July 16, 2021, in cinemas, on VOD, and on digital platforms. Katrina is most known for her role as Cerie on NBC’s 30 Rock from 2006 to 2013, although she has also acted in movies like Tucker & Dale vs. Evil, Sex Drive, Piranha 3DD, American Reunion, and Scary Movie 5. She is presently starring as Flo Fulton on CBS’s daytime drama The Bold and the Beautiful.
Kaz Fellows, an American nurse who works with her lover, Charlie (Aaron Jakubenko), in his charter aviation business, is her new role in Great White. Two great white sharks circle five passengers on stranded seaplane miles from shore in the movie. Bowden and I discussed a survival horror film that focuses on the characters and their dangers rather than cheap scares and gore. Bowden recognized that the majority of the tension in the picture was only increased by the audience actually caring about the fate of each character on screen and that this is what sets it distinct from previous films in the genre.
Katrina also talked about shooting in Australia, the physicality of the role, becoming one with her co-stars because they didn’t have much else, and working with actual and visual effects that stretched their acting abilities. As we ended off our conversation, I had the opportunity to ask the actress about the likelihood of a future 30 Rock reunion, and she seemed enthusiastic about the prospect.
Check out the interview and remember that Great White releases in theaters, VOD, and Digital on July 16, 2021.
