Update: Not long after Dave Gobson, I mean Dwayne Johnson, introduced a new trailer for Disney’s JUNGLE CRUISE, Emily Blunt helped debut the real trailer, which focuses on her character, the intrepid Lily Houghton. In the footage, we find Blunt’s bookish character setting off for adventure down the Amazon river with Johnson’s mouthy kipper, Frank Wolff. While Frank appears to be big and tough, it looks like he’ll need Houghton to pull his bacon from the fire on more than one occasion throughout the film.
Dwayne Johnson’s mana is overflowing as he introduces the latest trailer for Disney’s Jungle Cruise. Does that sound gross? I assure you, it’s not. This is Disney we’re talking about, folks. They’re usually a bit more sly with how they hide their sexual innuendos. Anyway, before the trailer starts to play, Johnson addresses his fans and assures them that now is the perfect time for Disney’s next live-action spectacle to set sail in theaters. He also takes time to hype his co-star, Emanuelle Blart. Wait, that’s not it. It’s Amelia Brunt. No, that’s not it either. Maybe it’s Emile Spliff? Okay, sources are telling me it’s Emily Blunt. Now that I think about it, that makes a lot more sense.
In the new trailer, we’re introduced to Frank Wolff, the skipper of a rickety boat whose job is to take his passengers for a ride, both figuratively and literally. When Wolff’s boss informs him that he’s going to take the engine to his boat unless he pays him a handsome sum of money, Wolff finds himself up Shit’s Creek and in need of a paddle. This is where Emily Blunt’s Lily Houghton comes in. Together, they embark on an adventure that’s filled with danger and wild animals.
Per Disney, here’s the official synopsis for Jungle Cruise:
Join fan favorites Dwayne Johnson and Emily Blunt for the adventure of a lifetime on Disney’s Jungle Cruise, a rollicking thrill-ride down the Amazon with wisecracking skipper Frank Wolff and intrepid researcher Dr. Lily Houghton. Lily travels from London, England to the Amazon jungle and enlists Frank’s
questionable services to guide her downriver on La Quila—his ramshackle-but-charming boat. Lily is determined to uncover an ancient tree with unparalleled healing abilities—possessing the power to change the future of medicine. Thrust on this epic quest together, the unlikely duo encounters
innumerable dangers and supernatural forces, all lurking in the deceptive beauty of the lush rainforest. But as the secrets of the lost tree unfold, the stakes reach even higher for Lily and Frank, and their fate— and mankind’s—hangs in the balance.
I don’t know about you, but I am eagerly awaiting Blunt’s reply to this trailer. Clearly, she and Johnson have a great, playful working relationship. That seems to be the thing with Johnson, doesn’t it? He and his co-stars often appear as peas in a pod. Well, unless you hail from the Fast franchise, I suppose, but that’s a whole other kettle of fish. From where I’m standing, Jungle Cruise looks like a blast. It’s got charming characters, swashbuckling, a gorgeous setting, and is that a villain made of snakes? Disney, I’ll take one ticket for this one, please.
Disney’s Jungle Cruise will set sail in theaters on July 30, 2021.
