Lionsgate is currently focused on delivering a pipeline of pictures in a variety of genres, including action, thriller, comedy, romance, and horror, all of which are customized to the distribution channels that best suit their viewers. The studio has announced that Anna Kendrick will star in the upcoming psychological thriller Alice, Darling, in the spirit of this exploration. The script will be written by Alanna Francis. The film is produced by Katie Bird Nolan, Lindsay Tapscott, Christina Piovesan, and Noah Segal. Executive producers are Kendrick and Sam Tipper-Hale.
Mary Nighy makes her directorial debut with the film, which also stars Wunmi Mosaku (Lovecraft Country, His House), Kaniehtiio Horn (Journey to the Center of the Earth, The Trotsky), and Charlie Carrick (Molly Maxwell, Reign). Alice, Darling focuses on Alice (Kendrick), who is acting strangely and harboring secrets from her two best friends about her unstable boyfriend (Carrick) (Mosaku and Horn). When a local girl goes missing and Alice’s boyfriend shows up unexpectedly on their girl’s trip out of town, all secrets are revealed.
“Alice, Darling is a delicate, complex drama about coercion and control,” said Nighy. I couldn’t have asked for a greater cast of talented actors and creatives to bring this vital narrative to life as a director. The connection between Anna Kendrick, Wunmi Mosaku, and Kaniehtiio Horn in their roles as three pals is fantastic.”
“Alice, Darling is exactly the kind of picture we are trying to champion at Lionsgate, a gripping psychological thriller with three strong women at the centre,” said Lauren Bixby, VP, Acquisitions and Co-Productions at Lionsgate. We’re thrilled to be a part of this incredible female-led filmmaking team and diverse cast.”
“We seek to convey female tales unflinchingly, with nuance, sensitivity, and authenticity,” the Babe Nation Films creators noted. Alice, Darling will captivate spectators, but it is ultimately a storey about female strength and empowerment. We are ecstatic to be collaborating on this movie with Alanna, Mary, our incredible cast, Elevation, Castelletto, and Lionsgate.”
