The announcement of Marvel’s Wolverine by Insomniac Games at the PlayStation Showcase caught everyone off guard, and while the response has been overwhelmingly positive, a few questions have arisen. For example, while Insomniac has made M-rated games in the past, such as Sunset Overdrive and the Resistance trilogy, the studio tends to make games that appeal to a broader audience, and it’s possible that Marvel didn’t want a Wolverine game that can’t be played by younger players.
Brian Horton, the creative director, has moved quickly to dispel any doubts. Horton confirmed that Marvel’s Wolverine will have a “mature tone” in response to a question on Twitter, which is, of course, the right choice for that character. Meanwhile, unlike Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales (which he also directed), Horton confirmed that the game will be “full size,” which was never in doubt.
The PS5 version of Marvel’s Wolverine is in the works, but Insomniac says it’s still in “very early” development, so don’t expect to see much of it anytime soon.
