Eidos Montreal is slowly revealing more characters that our misfit team of heroes will encounter on their adventures as we get closer to the release of Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy. We saw Lady Hellbender and Drax’s, um… unique way of flirting earlier this month. Today, we meet Grand Unifier Raker, a Guardians foil who doesn’t seem to be as susceptible to sweet-talk as Hellbender. That doesn’t stop Starlord from flapping his gums in an attempt to stall.

The new trailer begins with the entire Guardians team being surprised by a door that opens behind them. Raker and a pair of colossal cloaked minions emerge from behind the cover of a blinding light. The Grand Unifier is a humanoid-like alien with arms that resemble a game of Tetris gone wrong. Starlord had his blasters trained on the intruders, but he instead chooses to greet them. Rocket, on the other hand, tries to blast Raker, who deflects the shots with ease. Knowing he won’t be able to shoot his way out, Peter Quill tries to woo Groot while he taps a green button, attempting to contact an unknown ally who doesn’t appear.

The Guardians have arrived in search of “truth,” according to Raker, and The Matriarch wishes to share it with them; an invitation that would be pleasant in any other setting, but becomes much more sinister when surrounded by an ominous space station. As the team of heroes accepts the fact that their day is about to get worse, Raker declares, “The Matriarch awaits.”

What are the goals of the Grand Unifier and The Matriarch in regards to the Guardians? Groot was trying to persuade someone to save their bacon. How did they get themselves into this situation in the first place? On October 26, Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy will be released for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Switch, and PC. In the meantime, our cover storey on the game can be found in issue 338 of Game Informer Magazine.
