Apple also unveiled a new version of the MagSafe Wallet, which was first released last year, alongside the iPhone 13 models. We thought we’d test out the Find My technology in this latest version to see how well it works and whether it’s a beneficial feature addition.

The new iPhone Leather Wallet with MagSafe has the same design as the previous generation. It comes in a number of colours and is designed to magnetically attach to the back of an iPhone. At the top, there’s a single little slot that can take up to three credit cards.

It only works with the iPhone 12 and iPhone 13 models because it’s MagSafe, and there doesn’t appear to be any gain in magnetic strength over last year’s version. It appears to have the same feel as last year’s model, and like last year’s model, it has the potential to pop off when you’re putting your iPhone in a tight pocket.

The main new feature is Find My, however, it has some limits, so don’t expect it to perform as well as other Apple accessories that have Find My app enabled.

When you first connect the wallet to an iPhone that supports it, you’ll be given the choice to add it to the Find My app. You can see the MagSafe Wallet on the Find My map with your other devices after it’s been added, but only when it’s attached to your iPhone, and that’s a huge but.

It doesn’t have a way to update its location on its own, so you’ll have to use the iPhone to do so. If the MagSafe Wallet becomes disconnected from the iPhone, you’ll receive a warning after around one minute, which is helpful in preventing it from becoming misplaced in the first place, but once it’s off the iPhone, all you can do is check its last known location.

There’s no way to find the MagSafe Wallet if it’s relocated from its last known location, which was when it was last attached to the iPhone. It’s worth noting that if you remove the MagSafe Wallet from your iPhone in a store to get a card out and don’t reattach it quickly enough, you’ll get the disconnecting notice, which is a drawback.

If someone else picks up the MagSafe Wallet, it will display your phone number if it is connected to their phone, allowing them to contact you.

The iPhone Leather Wallet with MagSafe is available in Golden Brown, Dark Cherry, Sequoia Green, Midnight, and Wisteria, and can be purchased for $59 on Apple’s website.
