Fall Guys: Ultimate Knockout was released as a “free” PlayStation Plus game on August 4, 2020. It wasn’t long before word got out about the game’s fun mix of platforming and a game show-style battle royale format, and it quickly became one of the most popular multiplayer games on the market. Fall Guys has broken the world record for the most downloaded PS Plus game of all time, indicating that the initial buzz was even louder than we realised.

Guinness World Records has certified the achievement, and it has been immortalised in the pages of its annual record book for the year 2022. Unfortunately, the exact number of downloads is not stated in Mediatonic’s news post announcing the milestone. To find out how many downloads future PS Plus titles will need to replace Fall Guys, you’ll almost certainly have to buy the book. Even so, considering the sheer number of popular games offered by the service over the years, including similar multiplayer success stories like Rocket League, this is an impressive achievement. All of them have been defeated by Fall Guys.

Fall Guys appears to be far from a “dead game,” despite what some lapsed players may believe. Its fifth season is in full swing, with a wild jungle theme, and fans were treated to Kena: Bridge of Spirits costumes this week. The Guinness Book of Records isn’t the only prestigious list on which Fall Guys has landed. It was also included in Game Informer’s list of the ten best modern platformers available right now.
