Cowboy Bebop is based on Cain Kuga’s popular Japanese anime TV series from 1998. The show was ordered straight-to-series by Netflix in 2018 for ten episodes, but filming was halted when John Cho, who plays Spike Spiegel, suffered a serious knee injury on set during a “freak accident.” The injury forced a 7-9-month hiatus in production.
Also starring Mustafa Shakir and Daniella Pineda, the series follows three bounty hunters, aka “cowboys”, that are all trying to outrun the past. Per the official synopsis, “They form a scrappy, snarky crew ready to hunt down the solar system’s most dangerous criminals — for the right price. But they can only kick and quip their way out of so many scuffles before their pasts finally catch up with them.”
