Wednesday, Tim Burton’s Addams Family spin-off series, has been making some strange casting announcements recently. Catherine Zeta-Jones will play Morticia Addams in the new Netflix show, according to a screaming telegram that just crossed my desk. This horrifying development follows the announcement that Luis Guzmán would play Gomez Addams.

Wednesday Addams’ years as a student at Nevermore Academy are chronicled in this creepy and kooky live-action series, which is a sleuthing, supernaturally infused mystery. Wednesday tries to master her developing psychic ability, stop a monstrous killing spree terrorising the local community, and solve the supernatural mystery that engulfed her parents 25 years ago — all while navigating her new and tangled relationships at Nevermore. Jenna Ortega (The Babysitter: Killer Queen, Scream, Yes Day) will play Wednesday Addams, the raven-haired torturer brother.

After Anjelica Huston, Charlize Theron, Daryl Hannah, and Carolyn Jones, Zeta-Jones is the latest actress to play the iconic role.

While Burton’s films have been hit-or-miss for me in recent years, I must admit that I am looking forward to seeing his take on The Addams Family. Along with The Munsters, The Addams Family was a big part of my childhood. Both families exemplify a sense of self-confidence and independence that I aspire to, and the sets for any Addams Family project are always a sight to behold. I am hoping Burton goes all out for this series and proves to the world that he can still get creepy, kooky, and, of course, ooky.
