The Suicide Squad, directed by James Gunn, is a daring, violent, and entertaining take on the criminal super-team, and an unanticipated figure from DC’s universe plays a notable role in the picture. The Polka-Dot Man, as played by David Dastmalchian, is a sympathetic portrayal of a killer with a mainly charming personality who suffered childhood trauma and was infected with a lethal extraterrestrial virus.
Photos of the actor and the cat he adopted while filming The Suicide Squad were first uploaded on Dastmalchian’s Instagram in June and have since been shared all over social media. The original post can be found here, along with some gorgeous photos. “With the help of my @thesuicidesquad family & some generous animal lovers in Panama, I was able to rescue Bubblegum,” David said in an Instagram post (full name: Abner Bubblegum Polka Dot Cat). She has been a blessing to our family and has played a critical role in assisting us in surviving the pandemic.”
Abner Bubblegum is a character in the film Abner Bubblegum Polka Dot Cat even had a full Polka-Dot Man outfit custom-made for her by Judianna Makovsky, the Suicide Squad costume designer, replete with a charming little polka-dotted helmet and goggles. What could be cuter than a cat and its owner dressed alike? Nothing, in my opinion, is. I’d want to congratulate David and Bubblegum on discovering each other and being so ridiculously cute together.
Guardians of the Galaxy director James Gunn’s The Suicide Squad, a sequel to 2016’s Suicide Squad, grossed $26 million in its first weekend in the United States. The picture is also critically acclaimed, having a 91 percent Rotten Tomatoes rating. Those who would rather stay at home than fight the throng at the movies can watch the film on HBO Max for the next 31 days when it premieres on August 5.
