The lively Harley Quinn series may be able to get rid of certain elements because it has streamed on HBO Max, but DC draws the line when it comes to the oral sex with Batman and Catwoman. The executive producers report that in season 3, DC vetoed an action scene of the characters.
In a recent interview with “Variety,” EPS co-creators Justin Halpern and Patrick Schumacher expressed their strong sense that an oral sex scene with two of its legacy characters was not their goal. Here are the words of the manufacturers:
“We had a moment where Batman was going down on Catwoman. And DC was like, ‘You can’t do that. You absolutely cannot do that.’ They’re like, ‘Heroes don’t do that.’ So we said, ‘Are you saying heroes are selfish lovers?’ They were like, ‘No, it’s that we sell consumer toys for heroes. It’s hard to sell a toy if Batman is also going down on someone.”
I know they’re an enterprise that has also to sell toys to consumers, but I would like them to come up with an argument better than “heroes don’t.” I guess if that’s the excuse I have been given, I’d have laughed at them. Simply say it will work, but I guess a higher level of DC felt really nervous and odd about it and didn’t know what to say to nix the notion. When I checked the last time I needed heroes too, but I digressed.
A lone Harley Quinn starts making it in Gotham City on her own. It is an animated series for adults, but even cartoons for adults I suppose have their limitations. Kalej Cuoco is the eponymous character. Schumacher and Halpern have observed that DC has allowed the storytelling of the series to stretch its boundaries numerous times, but they ultimately appear to have met an end they cannot breakthrough.
After the second season finals of the HBO Max Streaming Service on DC, Harley Quinn was taken up on a comic-only platform for a third season in September. The animated series includes the vocal talents of Lake Bell, Alan Tudyk, Ron Funches, Tony Hale, Jason Alexander, Diedrich Bader, Christopher Meloni, and J.B. Smoove in addition to Cuoco.
Do you believe it was right for DC to veto the oral sex scene of Batman and Catwoman?
