After first appearing in Birds of Prey, it appears that Black Canary will be able to sing once more. According to Cinelinx (and confirmed by Collider), a Black Canary film is in the works for HBO Max and will be written by Misha Green.

Jurnee Smollett-Bell is set to reprise her role as Dinah Lance/Black Canary, a vigilante with the metahuman ability to scream in hypersonic tones. Misha Green and Jurnee Smollett-Bell previously collaborated on WGN’s Underground and HBO’s Lovecraft Country, and had expressed a desire to work together again on a Black Canary project. “It is no secret that I adore Black Canary. Last year, Smollett-Bell told Variety, “It is a dream, character, and it was a dream to play her.” “If [the] dynamics were to fall in the right place, I would do it in a heartbeat, and Lord knows, I follow Misha wherever she leads me.” Misha Green appears to be writing the script at the moment, but she could direct.

In addition to the potential Black Canary film, Warner Bros. has several DC projects in the works for HBO Max, including Batgirl and Blue Beetle, as well as Michael B. Jordan’s Black Superman series.
