Deltarune Chapter 2 is now available on PC, Nintendo Switch, and PlayStation, as most Undertale fans are aware. People have had the opportunity to play through Toby Fox’s latest work at least once, if not multiple times.

The taste, on the other hand, leaves us wanting more. This is primarily due to the fact that this is the second chapter of an unfinished game, rather than a standalone work. It’s designed to entice players to keep playing by leaving unanswered questions at the end of each chapter. Chapter 2 doesn’t even explain what happened at the end of Chapter 1.

Here are just a few of the hit indie game’s unanswered questions and our best guesses at the answers.

When is Deltarune Chapter 3 coming out?

Now that Deltarune Chapter 2 is out, the natural follow-up question is: When is the next chapter coming?

Chapter 2 wasn’t supposed to be released as soon as it did. Fox intended to release Chapter 1 first, followed by the rest of the game. He explained that he released Chapter 2 now because “the world has been really tough for everybody recently” in his September 2021 update. However, his strategy remains largely unchanged.

Chapters 3, 4, and 5, as well as the existing chapters, will be released as a package by Fox. However, neither Chapter 3 nor the more complete version of Deltarune have a release date. Given that the team just finished Chapter 2, it’s unlikely to be finished anytime soon.

Fox announced that he finished “readable outlines for every chapter in the game” and “first-pass dialogue for almost all In his September 2020 update, Fox stated that he had completed “readable outlines for every chapter in the game” as well as “first-pass dialogue for almost all of the cutscenes.” He was working on Deltarune: Chapter 2 with three other active team members at the time, and it was released in September 2021 — a year later — with that same group of people behind it.

Chapter 2 had the most cutscenes of any planned chapter, as well as other difficult factors that increased development time, so it’s possible that later instalments will take less time. Fox began accepting applications for additional help in September 2020, which could help expedite the process. He admits that he has no idea when the next release will be available.

Deltarune Chapter 3, 4, and 5 will likely take at least two more years to complete based on the work Fox and his team have completed so far.

How many routes are there in Deltarune?

Noelle says wrong way in Deltarune Chapter 2.

Fox began accepting applications for additional help in September 2020, which could help expedite the process. He admits that he has no idea when the next release will be available.

However, this isn’t necessarily the only alternate route. It’s possible that interacting with other characters differently down the line could lead to other branching points that weren’t available in previous chapters.

Undertale had three paths: The default route, Pacifist Route, and Genocide Route. Deltarune has two so far: the default and the alternate. There are even variations of the default route like a certain character losing an arm. Understandably, this changes some dialogue in the story even if the outcome is relatively unchanged.

Fox hasn’t confirmed exactly how many routes he has planned for Deltarune. For now, the answer is at least two.

How many characters can join your team?

Noelle joins the party in Deltarune Chapter 2.

Noelle, Kris’ childhood friend, is introduced as a party member in Deltarune Chapter 2. Susie and Ralsei were the only ones who fought before. Only three characters can fight at the same time, but all of them can be in the party. Susie and Ralsei will, however, take precedence over Noelle.

Noelle begins as a non-player character (NPC), but she later becomes a playable character. Because this is only Chapter 2, other characters may appear in the future. It is, however, unlikely to be much more than what is already available. Alternatively, it could just be the characters we’re already familiar with.

This is not a AAA studio. We’re probably not getting an entire army like in a Fire Emblem game.

Is there romance in Deltarune?

Kris hugs Ralsei in Deltarune Chapter 2.

I’m not talking about boats when I say Deltarune has a lot of “ships.” Noelle, for example, seems unusually taken with Susie. Susie appears to have a strong desire to spend a lot of time with Ralsei. Kris, too, has the ability to say and do squee-worthy things. It reminds me of an awkward adolescent romance situation.

Deltarune doesn’t seem to rule out any potential character pairings outright. So, are there going to be any canon pairings? Will these connections simply float around in the air for players to interpret as they please? Characters have already reacted differently as a result of Kris’ choices, according to some players.

Undertale didn’t really have canon ships, but that doesn’t mean Deltarune won’t. At the moment, nothing’s set in stone.

Who is the Knight?

Kris seals dark fountain in Deltarune Chapter 2.

The Knight is Deltarune’s main antagonist, the one who is in charge of opening Dark Fountains, which have the potential to plunge the Light World into eternal darkness and turn all Darkeners into stone. It’s mentioned in Ralsei’s recitation of the Legend of Delta Rune at the start of Chapter 1. Even though we know the Knight’s role in the storey, we don’t know who he is.

Dark Fountains are responsible for the creation of Dark Worlds. Sealing Dark Fountains entails shutting down the Dark Worlds they spawned. After the events of Chapter 1, a new Dark World appeared in the computer lab, indicating that the Knight isn’t just a historical figure. They’re real, and they’re swarming computer labs all over town.

Even before Chapter 2, some fans speculated that Kris was the Knight. Kris, on the other hand, is the only one who can keep the Dark Fountains at bay. The truth will most likely have to wait until the rest of Deltarune is revealed.

People have their opinions, I have mine. Only Fox and his team are aware of the truth. On PC, Nintendo Switch, and PlayStation 4, you can play the first two chapters of the turn-based RPG developed by the Undertale creator for free.
